CCSD Athletics: Highlights from the week of Jan. 13, 2025

5A Girls Hoops - Silver Creek @ OHS6A Basketball: Conference battles begin

Girls and boys basketball squads from the Cherry Creek School District begin Centennial League play on Jan. 22, after playing non-conference games last week.

The Overland girls boast an 11-2 record going into conference play. The Blazers were 1-0 last week with a home win over Aurora Central. OHS will open league play against Mullen on Wednesday.

Grandview improved to 10-3 with a 60-53 overtime win over Legend last Saturday. The Wolves, who spent some time playing out-of-state games early in the season, will begin Centennial play at Eaglecrest on Jan. 22.

The Raptors were idle last week, and are 9-4, which includes a 4-0 stretch out of state. Eaglecrest hosts Grandview to open league play at the Nest on Jan 23.

Cherokee Trail and Cherry Creek are both 8-5 in non-conference play. The Cougars were idle last week and will open conference play against Arapahoe on Jan. 22. The Bruins went 3-0 last week with wins over Rock Canyon, Northfield, and Riverdale Ridge. Creek will host Smoky Hill in a Centennial matchup this Wednesday.

The Buffs (4-9) went 1-1 this past week, falling at Heritage and getting a home win over Northglenn. Smoky has played one league game (a loss to Arapahoe on Jan. 3), and will resume Centennial play on Jan. 22 at Cherry Creek.

5A Boys Hoops - EHS vs. Mountain VistaIn boys’ play, Eaglecrest leads the way with an 11-2 record, which includes a 69-66 victory over Mountain Vista last Tuesday. The Raptors will open Centennial play at the Nest against Grandview on Jan. 22.

Cherokee Trail improved to 7-6 in non-conference play with a 61-56 road win at Northfield last Saturday. The Cougars will host Arapahoe in their league opener on Wednesday.

Grandview fell to 6-6 with a 74-69 home loss to Legend on Jan. 18. The Wolves will finish their non-conference schedule on Jan. 20 at Chatfield. GHS will then be on the road at Eaglecrest for the Centennial opener on Wednesday.

Smoky Hill (6-7) and Cherry Creek (5-7) were both idle last week. The Buffs will play the Bruins on Jan. 22 at CCHS to open league play.

Overland is 4-9 after a 62-56 road win at Fossil Ridge last Saturday. The Trailblazers will open conference play on Wednesday at Mullen.

Girls Wrestling - Broomfield @ EHSGirls Wrestling: Eaglecrest has a good week

The Eaglecrest girls wrestling team rose to a number 6 ranking in the state last week. The Raptors hosted Broomfield at the Nest on Jan. 15 and defeated the Eagles 52-21.

EHS then took overall team honors among 40-plus teams at the Tiara Challenge hosted by Douglas County High School last weekend. Raptor wrestlers placed third or better in six events.
