Building Forward: CCSD hosts groundbreaking for elementary school #45
The possibilities of education are as wide open as the Colorado plains.
That was the message at Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony for CCSD’s new, 45th elementary school that will be located in the southeast part of the district. As attendees gathered to celebrate the opening of a new chapter in the district’s 70-year history, excitement was clearly in the air.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Siegfried and incoming principal Teolyn Bourbonnie shared their hopes and dreams for the new school.
“An important part of Cherry Creek Schools is our focus on neighborhood schools,” Siegfried said. “It is nice to be able to tell this community that they now have their permanent school.”
“I’ve always said that if I won the lottery, I would open a school,” Bourbonnie said. “I’m reminded as we look out onto this field of all the opportunities we have for all kids and what we can build and the story they can write.”
Construction on the school is set to begin in June, with a scheduled opening for the 2022-23 school year. On May 10, the Board of Education voted to approve the new school’s enrollment boundary, based on a recommendation from the Long-Range Planning Committee.
The school is set to serve 650 students, who will be part of the Fox Ridge Middle School and Cherokee Trail High School feeder area. The school will serve students in the Blackstone, Butterfield and Serenity Ridge communities.
