Important update from Cherry Creek Schools

  • March 18, 2020

Dear Cherry Creek School District Parents and Staff:

Like many of you, I just received word that Governor Polis signed an executive order closing Colorado schools through Friday, April 17, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. At this time, and per this order, all students – including Cherry Creek School District students – would return to school on Monday, April 20. You can read the press release and executive order here.

This extended closure raises an infinite number of questions about critical issues including credits, grades, graduations, remote learning and future funding.

I believe this is the right decision for the well-being of our community. However, the reality of a weeks-long closure presents enormous challenges.  We know there are a lot of questions at the moment, but you have my word that we are doing everything in our power to provide thoughtful and timely answers.

The CCSD Pandemic Committee has been meeting daily to deal with the ever-changing situation and make decisions that best protect the health and well-being of our students, staff, families and communities. Those decisions include the development and implementation of a free meal program, food banks, online educational resources for students and families to use during our extended spring break, as well as a remote learning system that we will begin the process of implementing next week.

I have no doubt that we will overcome this extraordinary challenge. I have never been more honored to be an educator and member of the Cherry Creek Schools community. We have the best and the brightest people here in the Cherry Creek School District and they are working nearly round the clock to make sure that we continue to meet the needs of EVERY student in our district, given our new reality.

Please watch for additional specific information via phone, email and text during the coming days. You can also get the latest information on coronavirus (COVID-19), our free meals program, our existing online educational resources and more at

    Stay safe. Stay healthy.

    Scott A. Siegfried, Ph.D.
